Beutler Proposes MOVE Council to Build Lincoln
“I want more opportunities for employers and employees. I want a strong and vibrant economy for all. In short, I want Lincoln to MOVE. I am proposing the creation of the Mayor’s Opportunities for a Vibrant Economy, or MOVE, Council,” said Lincoln Mayoral candidate Chris Beutler in announcing the second piece of his Mayoral platform on building an exceptional economy in Lincoln.
“The MOVE Council will be comprised of community groups and leaders active in creating economic development and who play a vital component in creating momentum on matters related to Lincoln’s economic policy,” Beutler said.
Beutler believes that the new Council will be critical toward developing a community wide consensus on our economic policy. “We need to determine which projects best support a consensus driven policy, prioritize those projects, and find the resources to make those projects happen,” he said.
As Mayor, Beutler would utilize the MOVE Council to help streamline city government’s rules and regulations on business development, anticipate future growth, determine the best use of public economic development tools, prioritize public investment to foster growth, and assist in strategic thinking on business development.
The MOVE Council will consist of 11 people appointed by the Mayor and represent
a broad cross section of the community including members chosen from:
- Lincoln Chamber of Commerce
- Lincoln Independent Business Association
- Neighborhood Business Associations
- Lincoln’s Realtors
- Homebuilders of Lincoln
- University of Nebraska
- 2015 Visioning Group
- Downtown Lincoln Association
- Employee/Labor Groups
- Neighborhood Associations
- Non-Profits
“As Mayor, I can provide the leadership this community needs to create an Exceptional Economy. I have a long and proven record of making things happen for both Lincoln and Nebraska. However, leadership cannot proceed without vision, without expertise, or without purpose. That’s where the MOVE Council comes in. Together we can make Lincoln more and MOVE our community forward in creating economic opportunities for the future,” Beutler concluded.
