Beutler says he’ll take charge
Mayoral candidate Chris Beutler is definitely winning the press release/press conference war, if such a war exists.
So far in this nascent mayoral campaign, he has held several press conferences and sent out multiple press releases outlining his plans and ideas.
Candidate Ken Svoboda has held one press conference and sent out one release announcing the opening of his campaign office. Roger Yant hasn’t held any press conferences or sent out any press releases.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Beutler’s latest press releases promises he’ll take charge if elected mayor in May by making city departments meet specific goals and holding directors accountable for results.
“Lincoln can only be ready to grow and open for business if the Mayor seizes the reins and demands results from city government,” he said in the release.
How would he do that?
- Require that response times be set and then met for getting business projects approved.
- Appoint project managers to shepherd major projects.
- Participate in regional performance comparisons with other cities.
- Compile a regular “city performance report” showing the results of a citizen survey to rate the city’s performance and listing its accomplishments.
- Hire department directors “with a history of meeting the goals set by their superiors and getting the job done.”
