Beutler to announce plans

Sen. Chris Beutler is expected to announce his candidacy for Lincoln mayor during a press conference Friday.

Beutler has scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. at Embassy Suites.

In January, he’ll be term-limited out of his seat in the Legislature, where he was first elected in 1978. He was re-elected four years later, but gave up his seat in 1986 when he unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for governor.

He was elected to his legislative seat again in 1990 and has won re-election since.

Beutler, a Democrat, is a Nebraska native and graduate of Omaha Benson High School. He graduated from Yale University in 1968 and from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1973.

Beutler has worked part time as a fund raiser for the city Parks & Recreation Department since 2000, when he was hired by former Mayor Don Wesely.
