Homeshoring for Lincoln's Future

I had a very interesting conversation yesterday. I spoke with a young man who lives in San Francisco, but is originally from Lincoln. In fact, he attended Lincoln High at the with two of my daughters. He and his wife have a young daughter and they have both found themselves wanting to move back to Lincoln so she can be raised in the same great environment they were lucky enough to experience.

He is a manager for a major technology company that wants to open a new customer support call center in the next year. Because he has spoken so favorably of Lincoln to his superiors, they are now considering locating that call center here. Lincoln is in the mix, but there’s competition. Other cities would love a new employer like this to come to them and low wages in other countries offer tempting savings.

The next Mayor of Lincoln should be a leader in seeking out new opportunities for development and good jobs. We need to aggressively sell ourselves as a centrally located, business-friendly town with a low cost of living, high quality of life, and a well-educated work force. To this end, I have proposed my “Homeshore Lincoln Plan.” Please read about my plan and let me know what you think.
