Have You Visited My MySpace Profile?
Channel 8 came to the office today to discuss my campaign’s use of Internet web sites like MySpace to communicate with younger voters. Apparently, Beutler for Mayor is the only campaign in Lincoln using this technology. I think that’s a shame. In order for leaders to truly be effective, it’s essential that they communicate as broadly as possible.
MySpace is particularly popular among younger people in their 20’s and 30’s. During my campaign for Mayor, I’ve tried to communicate with as many people as possible and that means meeting with them in the places they live and work. It doesn’t matter if I’m going to a neighborhood association meeting or connecting to people online, the important thing is that I want to communicate my vision of leadership for Lincoln.
Communication tools like MySpace and Face Book are amazing in how they provide a new way of allowing people to communicate with one another. As Mayor, I will embrace innovations that will allow me to better communicate with the citizens of our city.
The other day, my young granddaughter, with the help of her mother, visited ChrisBeutler.com and sent me a message using the web site’s contact form. She said, “You are doing a good job running for mayor grandpa Chris. Love Ella I love you.” It absolutely made my day. The fact that email, MySpace, and technology that hasn’t even been invented yet will be taken for granted by her and her friends is proof that government and leaders need to continually evolve and adapt to connect effectively with all citizens.

I agree with it. It is true
